The opportunity

Join as an apprentice-level turning machinist and learn to operate CNC and Swiss lathes under the guidance of seasoned experts. You’ll help produce precision components to exacting specifications, perform basic setups and tool changes, monitor production, inspect parts, and keep your area safe and orderly. This role is intentionally designed as a launchpad with a clear path to Machinist II as your skills, quality, reliability, and machine proficiency grow.

Core responsibilities

• Operate CNC and Swiss turning equipment with supervision; complete basic setups, offsets, and tool swaps.
• Load materials, run jobs to plan, and support production schedules through high machine utilization.
• Produce parts to blueprint and work-instruction requirements; document counts, downtime, and job data precisely.
  
  

Quality and measurement

• Perform first-article and in-process checks using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges.
• Read and interpret basic drawings, dimensions, and tolerances; apply foundational GD&T concepts as trained.
• Escalate tool wear or process deviations quickly to protect quality and reduce scrap and rework.
  
  

Safety, 5S, and collaboration

• Follow PPE requirements and all machine-safety procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, hazard-free work cell; contribute to 5S and lean initiatives.
• Take direction from supervisors and lead machinists; communicate status and issues across shifts and teams.
  
  

What you’ll learn

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude with a strong desire to learn the machining trade.
• Solid basic math; accurate use of measuring instruments.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  
  

Preferred background

• Experience in a manufacturing or machining environment.
• Exposure to CNC equipment or completion of a technical training program.
• Introductory blueprint-reading knowledge.
  
  

Physical requirements and environment

• Standing for extended periods; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand motions.
• Comfort working around noise, coolant, and moving equipment.
  
  

Performance expectations

• Attendance ≥ 98%.
• Daily production goals achieved ≥ 90%.
• Scrap rate ≤ 2%.
• Setup times at or below standard expectations.
• Consistent, accurate measurement and inspection practices.
• Strict adherence to safety and housekeeping standards.
• Ongoing, demonstrated progress toward independent operation.
