POSITION SUMMARY

The Purchasing Manager leads the day-to-day operations of the Purchasing Department and reports to the VP of Finance. This leadership role provides oversight to the Senior Purchasing Administrator and Purchasing Administrators, owns the end-to-end workflow from Purchasing through Accounts Payable, and develops and maintains strategic vendor relationships alongside the executive management. The Purchasing Manager sets purchasing strategy across all Hirschi companies, drives procurement cost savings, and serves as the primary point of accountability for procurement performance, vendor partnership, and team development.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Purchasing Department and direct the workflow from Purchasing through Accounts Payable.
  • Provide direct oversight, coaching, and performance management for the Senior Purchasing Administrator and Purchasing Administrators.
  • Develop and maintain strategic vendor relationships in partnership with the division presidents to support each company’s operational needs.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve purchasing strategies, standards, and procedures across all Hirschi companies.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and master agreements with vendors and suppliers to drive cost savings and competitive advantage.
  • Partner with the Accounts Payable team to ensure timely and accurate transfer of purchase orders, receiving documentation, and invoice reconciliation.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators for the Purchasing team and report regularly to the VP of Finance on performance, cost savings, and risk.
  • Oversee inventory management, warehouse operations, and audit compliance to ensure materials availability for the field.
  • Resolve escalated vendor, pricing, and fulfillment issues and serve as the primary point of contact for executive management on procurement matters.
  • Recruit, train, and develop Purchasing team members; build clear career paths for advancement within the department.
  • Champion safety, compliance, and a culture of accountability across the Purchasing Department.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the VP of Finance.

MUST HAVE — REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive purchasing experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present clearly to executives and division leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and hold a team accountable to clear performance standards.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a process-improvement mindset.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions as needed to support field operations.
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs.
  • Bilingual in both English and Spanish preferred.
  • Strong operational knowledge of Microsoft Office software, purchasing software, and ERP platforms.
  • Must pass drug test and background check.
  • Proven track record managing vendor relationships and negotiating contracts.
  • Must be able to read and write in English and/or Spanish at a level sufficient to follow safety instructions, complete required documentation accurately, and communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and customers.

NICE TO HAVE — PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Construction industry purchasing experience and familiarity with construction material categories.
  • Experience managing a purchasing team in a multi-entity or multi-division organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of inventory management systems, ERP platforms, and purchasing software.
  • Demonstrated success in vendor negotiation, master agreement development, and competitive bidding.
  • Experience working closely with Accounts Payable and managing the PO-to-invoice workflow.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Finance, or a related field.

  • Accountability: owns purchasing performance, audit compliance, and continuous improvement of department operations.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
