Utility Project Coordinator

HireTalent
Phillips, WI Full Time
POSTED ON 10/27/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 12/27/2026

We are seeking a highly organized, self‐motivated Electric Distribution Designer to support electric distribution projects for residential and commercial customers.

This role is ideal for someone who excels in project management, customer communication, and multi‐tasking. Technical design experience is helpful but not required—the team will provide training on GIS design systems (Client Smallworld) and utility design processes.

You will manage customer requests, coordinate project steps from intake through final design, perform local field assessments, and collaborate with cross‐functional utility teams.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Customer Coordination (Primary Focus)

  • Manage multiple customer projects simultaneously from initial request through final design.
  • Communicate directly with residential and commercial customers to clarify requirements, timelines, and expectations.
  • Translate basic technical or industry information into clear, simple explanations for non‐technical audiences.
  • Work closely with electric, gas, and service designers to align project plans and prevent conflicts.
  • Participate in scheduling meetings and regular team check‐ins.

Field Work (Approx. 30%)

  • Conduct local site visits to evaluate existing infrastructure and construction conditions.
  • Take field measurements, assess constructability, and verify site information before design finalization.
  • Use personal vehicle for field work (mileage reimbursed).

Design & Technical Work (Secondary Focus – Trainable)

  • Create and update electric distribution designs using GIS and drafting tools (training provided).
  • Produce basic 2D layouts showing underground routes, transformer locations, pole placement, and related infrastructure.
  • Interpret customer needs, construction standards, and engineering drawings.
  • Update designs based on engineering feedback or field findings.
  • Prepare supporting documents such as material lists, schedules, and transmittals.

What a Typical Day Looks Like

  • Review new customer requests in SAP.
  • Split time between design work and field assessments depending on project volume.
  • Attend weekly scheduling meetings (Mon/Tues) and team touchpoints (Thurs).
  • Balance a varied mix of customer communication, project follow‐up, and technical tasks.

Must‐Have Qualifications

  • Strong project management skills (handling multiple projects, prioritization, documenting progress).
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills—ability to simplify technical info for “average customer” comprehension.
  • High organizational capability; able to self‐manage in a small office supporting a large geographic area.
  • Self‐motivated and comfortable working independently.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability and willingness to perform local field work (~30%).
  • Basic interest in or exposure to electrical or utility concepts (formal design experience not required).

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

  • Experience with GIS, AutoCAD, drafting tools, or mapping systems.
  • Background in utility, electrical, construction, or field‐based work.
  • Experience in customer‐facing technical roles.
