Overview
Position Summary:
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Director of Accounting to join a growing finance team within a dynamic manufacturing organization. This position plays a key role in maintaining the company's financial foundation, overseeing daily accounting operations, and driving process improvements across reporting and operations.
This is a high-growth role designed to progress into a controller role within two years. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical accounting skills, thrives in a fast-paced production environment, and is ready to take on a broader leadership capacity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including inventory accounting, job costing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and payroll.
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes while ensuring timely and accurate financial statements in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial data.
- Analyze manufacturing cost variances, standard costs, and gross margin reports to support operational decision-making.
- Partner with operations and plant leadership to enhance inventory accuracy and production reporting.
- Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
- Support external audits by preparing audit schedules and documentation.
- Identify and implement process improvements across accounting and manufacturing reporting systems.
- Mentor and develop accounting team members.
- Take on increasing responsibilities related to internal controls, cash management, and strategic financial planning in preparation for advancement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; MBA preferred.
- This person must have outstanding leadership skills. Management experience is a "must"
- Progressive accounting experience, with at least some exposure to manufacturing.
- CPA or CMA certification required.
- Minimum of five years of management experience.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
- Experience with ERP systems in manufacturing environments.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
- Prior experience working within family-owned / privately-held companies.
- Experience with inventory controls, bills of materials (BOMs), work order tracking, and job costing.
- Prior involvement in ERP implementation or system upgrades.
