Job Summary
A growing construction organization is seeking an experienced Field Mechanic / Heavy Equipment Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy construction equipment in both field and shop environments. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, pneumatic systems, and emissions-related troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy construction equipment and yellow iron.
- Perform field and shop repairs on heavy equipment, machinery, and related systems.
- Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and emissions systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and scheduled servicing.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform mobile/field repairs as needed.
- Identify mechanical issues and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Follow all safety procedures and manufacturer specifications.
- Coordinate with operators, supervisors, and other maintenance personnel to minimize equipment downtime.
- Maintain mechanic tools and ensure equipment is serviced and returned to operating condition.
Qualifications
- 5 years of heavy-equipment mechanic experience preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience with diesel, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and emissions systems.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing equipment in both field and shop environments.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance on heavy construction equipment.
- Background with construction equipment, heavy civil contractors, equipment dealers, rental companies, or similar environments.
- Must have own mechanic tools; specialty tools will be provided.
- CDL preferred but not required.
- Must be able to pass an MVR, drug screen, and background check.
Preferred Equipment Experience
Experience working with heavy construction equipment such as:
- Excavators
- Dozers
- Loaders
- Graders
- Backhoes
- Skid steers
- Compactors
- Other heavy construction/yellow-iron equipment
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 45.0 per week
