POSITION SUMMARY
Hiram House is seeking an experienced and passionate Outdoor Education & Retreat Coordinator who is ready to take our programs to a new level. This is a rare opportunity to join the oldest summer camp in the State of Ohio and make a meaningful impact in our community. We are a 128-year-old non-profit organization located in Moreland Hills, operating a historic youth summer camp program alongside year-round school and corporate group programming. The Outdoor Education & Retreat Coordinator provides leadership in the planning, coordination, and delivery of Hiram House Camp’s rental, retreat, and school camp programs. This role also offers the exciting opportunity to expand year-round programming, develop curriculum for school camps and after-school programs, and create new educational experiences that engage youth and community groups. The position ensures that all groups receive high-quality experiences from initial booking through departure while supporting overall camp operations and advancing the mission of Hiram House Camp.
ESENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Outdoor Education and Rental Coordination
- Serve as primary liaison and relationship manager with schools, nonprofits, and facility partners, overseeing comprehensive scheduling, contract negotiation, payment processing, and documentation systems to ensure seamless program delivery and client satisfaction
- Design and implement innovative school camp curriculum frameworks, developing comprehensive multi-day educational experiences that integrate outdoor adventure, environmental science, team building, and academic reinforcement aligned with state educational standards and age-appropriate learning objectives
- Create and continuously refine curriculum for outdoor education programs, school camps, and after-school offerings, designing engaging, hands-on experiential learning modules that complement and enhance classroom instruction while fostering environmental stewardship and personal growth
- Lead direct instruction and facilitate outdoor education programming, personally delivering specialized curriculum content while mentoring and developing teaching skills in program staff to ensure consistent, high-quality educational outcomes
- Identify, develop, and launch new program opportunities for youth engagement, including expanded year-round school partnerships, innovative educational camps, specialized skill-building workshops, and community outreach initiatives that maximize facility utilization
- Provide comprehensive program leadership through group orientation, on-site coordination, needs assessment, and real-time problem resolution to ensure exceptional client experiences and program success
- Supervise, train, and directly instruct alongside program staff, coordinating scheduling, providing ongoing professional development, delivering specialized training workshops, and maintaining adequate staffing levels while personally teaching core curriculum components
- Coordinate comprehensive program integration by collaborating with catering company and kitchen staff on menu planning and dietary accommodations, and ensuring seamless integration of rental groups into camp operations
- Ensure facility readiness and operational excellence through property management support, safety protocol implementation, and coordination with maintenance teams to create optimal learning environments
Community Outreach & Marketing
- Develop and execute comprehensive outreach and marketing strategies to expand rental and school group partnerships, including targeted campaigns, relationship building with district administrators, participation in educational conferences, proposal development, market analysis, and competitive pricing optimization to maximize facility utilization and revenue generation
- Build strategic partnerships and advisory networks with school districts, homeschool networks, educational organizations, youth-serving groups, and community leaders through proactive relationship development, needs assessment, and collaborative program design that addresses educational objectives and budget considerations
- Represent the organization as subject matter expert at community events, trade shows, and educational forums, deliver presentations, conduct workshops, and network to expand program reach while developing targeted outreach materials and communication strategies for diverse community segments
- Coordinate community engagement initiatives such as open houses, educator appreciation events, and public demonstrations while conducting ongoing market research to identify underserved populations, emerging trends, and partnership opportunities that align with organizational goals
General Camp Operations & Educational Leadership
- Provide educational leadership and direct instruction support to summer camp specialty staff (archery, aquatics, climbing, equestrian, environmental education), personally teaching specialized content while developing comprehensive lesson plans, progressive skill-building curriculum, and assessment tools for each activity area.
- Design and deliver comprehensive staff training programs that combine hands-on teaching demonstration with curriculum development, policy implementation, emergency preparedness, and ongoing professional development to ensure consistency, safety standards, and engaging experiences across all programming areas
- Lead organizational development initiatives including policy creation, emergency preparedness protocols, risk management procedures, staff coordination, performance feedback, and special event planning to maintain high standards of program delivery and staff excellence
- Off Season Support will include co-leading seasonal staff recruitment and training design, jointly manage open houses, tours, and serving as summer leadership staff for activity specialists and their daily activities.

REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Education, Business, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in education, recreation, facility management, or camp operations.
- Be willing to become certified in our high ropes course and serve as a point of contact for staff.
- Demonstrated ability to manage logistics and lead in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in scheduling systems, databases, and spreadsheets.
- Familiarity with contracts, invoicing, and financial recordkeeping (preferred).
- Willingness to complete site-specific challenge course training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Endurance for prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and stretching.
- Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination for activity supervision.
- Normal range of hearing and vision to communicate and record program information.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work outdoors in varying conditions.
- Willingness to work irregular hours as needed.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Salary: $40,000-$42,000 annually (full-time, exempt)
