Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a national law firm, currently has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for a Consumer Financial Services Litigation Paralegal. The position will be located in our Boston office. We offer competitive compensation and an excellent benefits package.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Litigation Paralegal with experience in Bankruptcy and Mortgage Foreclosure matters, who will perform a variety of duties, including e-filing, interacting with courts and clients and preparing documents for attorneys according to established policies and procedures.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • E-File in both State and Federal Court systems
  • Record/capture billable time in compliance with client guidelines
  • Draft transmittal letters
  • Investigate facts as requested by attorneys
  • Prepare, review, format and cite check legal documents such as notices, consents, appearances, answers, objections, stipulations, affidavits, motions, briefs and pleadings
  • Prepare exhibits, including trial exhibits
  • Redact confidential information
  • Conduct SCRA searches, factual investigations and legal research regarding creditor rights, foreclosure law, lien priority, and real property disputes; conduct title and lien review to identify ownership interests, encumbrances, and legal issues affecting foreclosure proceedings
  • Manage high volume caseload in a deadline-driven environment, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations; ensure compliance with state foreclosure requirements
  • Prepare, review, and file foreclosure pleadings, notices, affidavits, motions, and other legal documents
  • Monitor case deadlines and maintain accurate litigation and foreclosure calendars.
  • Track and analyze foreclosure timelines to ensure compliance with court orders and statutory requirements
  • Review title reports, title commitments, and public records to identify competing liens, ownership issues, and priority disputes
  • Analyze mortgages, security agreements, assignments, loan modifications, UCC filings, and related documents to support lien enforcement and defense strategies
  • Review loan documents, payment histories, and foreclosure referrals for accuracy and completeness
  • Assist in resolving title, bankruptcy, probate, or loss mitigation issues impacting foreclosure actions
  • Review, analyze and monitor Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy court dockets for case activity and to identify key developments and critical deadlines; assess plans, petitions and schedules; analyze investment documents, motions to sell and other documents
  • Prepare and maintain case updates to ensure accurate and timely reporting
  • Communicate with court and clients regarding deadlines
  • Prepare summaries of 341 meeting results, addenda to Proofs of Claim
  • Perform initial case reviews and prepare related reports; prepare case summaries to identify potential issues
  • Prepare and submit Proof of Claim packages

Qualifications And Prior Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred; Additionally, three years of bankruptcy and mortgage foreclosure experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of internet and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word), iManage and Adobe.
  • E-Filing experience in both State and Federal Court systems.
  • Knowledge of multiple states’ bankruptcy and foreclosure procedures is ideal
  • Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet needs.
  • Listens and seeks clarification; responds well to questions.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Synthesizes complex or diverse information; collects and researches data.
  • Takes independent actions and calculated risks; asks for help when needed.
  • Follows instructions, responds to management direction; commits to additional hours of work when necessary to reach goals.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities; contributes to building a positive team environment.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Moves case along, anticipating next steps and proactively discussing same with attorneys.
