Job Summary
Hingham High School is looking for a director for their 2026 Spring Play. The production calendar runs approximately mid-March - May 8. Evening performances are scheduled for May 7 and May 8. In addition to directing, the guest director must also assist in lighting/set design, production responsibilities, and delegation/oversight of crew responsibilities. Past spring plays have included two similarly themed One-Acts, vignette style full-length productions, as well as traditional full-length plays. There is flexibility with the style of the production.
Qualifications
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree.
- Massachusetts Teaching License preferred
- Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
Responsibilities
- Direct 30 students (cast/crew) in a spring play. Coordinate, communicate, and supervise an after school rehearsal and performance schedule.
- Collaborate with an assistant director (Hingham High staff member), who is primarily responsible for set building and crew management.
- Assist in set/lighting design and delegation/oversight of crew responsibilities.
- Supervise students at all rehearsals, performances, and drama events.Provide an equitable and inclusive learning environment that is responsive to all learners and their families.
- Provide for differentiated coaching to meet the needs of all students, including students with disabilities and English learners.
- Create a developmentally appropriate, student-centered environment that establishes positive student behavioral expectations conducive to all learners needs through structured routines, and positive behavioral interventions.
- Partner with families to create strong two way communication.
- Work collaboratively with members of the Hingham Fine Arts Department and the current high school drama teacher as needed to best serve the needs of students.
- Responsible for other job-related duties as needed.

Part-time, temporary position. Stipend position in accordance with HEA Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement.
