What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Monitor position at Hines Building Maintenance (HBM)?
HBM is looking for an alert individual with great customer services skills, to monitor a school campus. This is a fully benefited full time position. The typical schedule is 730am to 4pm Monday to Friday with some weekend required.
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Safety Monitor is responsible for enforcing safe school practices and visitor protocols for the school campus. The Safety Monitor helps provide an optimal learning environment and acts as a deterrent to unsafe or poor behavior by providing high visibility throughout the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Walk and survey campus, hallways, common areas, interior and exterior grounds, and parking lots to enforce safe school policies.
Monitor video cameras for suspicious or unsafe activities.
Welcomes, assists, and answers inquiries from students, visitors, and staff in a supportive and professional manner.
Contacts the Emergency Response Team (ERT) or authorities promptly when needed.
Follow the direction of the ERT team during emergencies and provide support where needed.
Provides high visibility to act as a deterrent to unsafe or poor behavior, loitering, and disruptive behavior.
Firmly and courteously request compliance from persons violating safety policies that are deemed a risk to students, staff, and campus.
Manages gate access for campus events and campus visitors
Escort visitors to ensure visitor protocols are followed.
Point of contact for room keys and information for Delano guests.
Provide campus badges to new staff
Assist with traffic control and safety zones when needed.
During closed campus days, the safety monitor will be assigned to assist the facilities team with other duties, including but not limited to washing exterior surfaces, event set up, painting, moving classroom furniture, and general cleaning.

Qualifications (knowledge, skills, abilities):
High School Diploma or equivalent
Ability to use sound judgement in difficult situations and solve problems effectively.
Ability to communicate verbally with staff in a professional manner.
Knowledge of conflict resolution techniques and de-escalation techniques.
Certification Requirements
- CPR and First Aid certification required within 1 year after entering position.
Preferred education and experience
1-year experience working in a school setting.
Working knowledge of two-way radio.
Basic knowledge of using a PC and MS Office software.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, pull, and push up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and walk for long periods of time during a shift.
Other Requirements:
Must be able to pass Federal background check.
Vaccination requirements including TB testing
