Hines Building Maintenance (HBM) is seeking a dependable and hands-on Maintenance Technician I to support an independent private school.
This position performs basic building and grounds maintenance, assists with campus events and daily facility needs, and supports the maintenance team in keeping the school clean, safe, and operational. During the winter months, this position will also be responsible for assigned snow and ice removal duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform basic building maintenance and repairs, including minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, hardware repairs, and general handyman-type work.
- Complete assigned work orders and preventive maintenance tasks.
- Inspect buildings and grounds and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Assist with moving furniture, deliveries, room setups, event setups, and teardowns.
- Provide custodial and campus cleanup support when needed, including responding to spills, restroom issues, and other daily school facility needs.
- Maintain tools, equipment, maintenance areas, and supplies.
- Assist other maintenance technicians and outside vendors with larger repairs and projects.
- Perform assigned snow and ice removal duties during winter weather events, including clearing sidewalks, walkways, entrances, stairs, and other designated areas.
- Safely operate assigned snow removal equipment and use ice-melt and other winter weather materials as trained.
- Be available for snow removal assignments that may occur before or after regular working hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays, depending on weather and campus needs.
Follow all school and HBM safety procedures and complete required training.
Qualifications
- Previous maintenance, construction, grounds, janitorial, or handyman experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair.
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment.
- Experience with snow removal equipment is preferred; training may be provided.
- Ability to use a computer or mobile device to receive and complete work orders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a facilities team.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work safely around students, staff, and visitors.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, climb, reach, and perform physical maintenance work.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including cold, snow, and icy conditions.
- Ability to safely operate maintenance and snow removal equipment as assigned.
Other Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to successfully complete required background screening.
- Must meet applicable requirements for working in a school environment.
- Reliable attendance and availability for assigned winter weather response are required.
