Job Summary:

The Deputy Director serves as key personnel and a core member of the Executive Leadership Team at Hinds County Mental Health Commission (HCMHC). This role provides high-level strategic, clinical, and administrative oversight in alignment with the agency’s mission and strategic priorities. The Deputy Director is responsible for supporting day-to-day operations across service lines while ensuring programmatic integrity, regulatory compliance, and quality service delivery. In collaboration with the Executive Director and other executive staff, including the Director of Administrative Services, Medical Director, and Human Resources. The Deputy Director will contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of agency-wide initiatives. This role requires a balance of clinical expertise and administrative leadership to foster whole-person care coordination across behavioral health, medical, and social service systems.

The Deputy Director plays a critical role in improving driving performance, providing collaborative clinical supervision, and enforcing quality assurance protocols to ensure service excellence. This full-time, exempt (salaried) position reports directly to the Executive Director and requires discretion, professionalism, and a demonstrated commitment to advancing health equity and access.

Qualifications: Master’s degree or higher, preferably a Doctorate, in Mental Health or a health-related field, such as a PhD, PsyD, LCSW, LPC-S, or LMHT. A minimum of four years of leadership experience in behavioral health or public health settings is required, demonstrating expertise in both clinical operations and administrative leadership. The applicant must have a proven ability to manage staff, ensure compliance, drive performance improvement, and promote interdisciplinary collaboration. Experience in fiscal oversight, including grant and funding management, budgeting, payroll, and general accounting within governmental, nonprofit, or human services settings is essential. Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills are necessary for effectively engaging with staff, community partners, and board members. The candidate should be committed to the community mental health model and capable of developing innovative, client-centered programming. Proficiency in grant writing, data interpretation, and the use of presentation, word processing, and spreadsheet software is expected, alongside familiarity with federal grant-making processes and experience working in collaborative, interdisciplinary teams. A valid Mississippi driver’s license and current auto insurance are required for this role, which carries very low risk for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. The candidate must have a valid Mississippi driver’s license and proof of current auto insurance coverage.
