Position Summary

Himes Machine is seeking an experienced CNC Mill Operator to set up and operate CNC milling machines used to manufacture precision components. This position is ideal for someone who takes ownership of their work, carefully follows specifications, and understands that even the smallest detail can affect the quality and performance of a finished part.

The CNC Mill Operator will be responsible for meeting exact customer requirements, maintaining consistent quality, and supporting production goals while working collaboratively with our machining, engineering, programming, and quality teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC milling machines to produce precision components according to exact specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, GD&T, work orders, and customer requirements.
• Select and set up the appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials for each job.
• Adjust machine speeds, feeds, offsets, and cutting parameters to achieve optimal performance.
• Closely monitor machining operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
• Inspect finished components using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
• Identify quality concerns and take prompt corrective action before parts move forward in production.
• Accurately complete required production, inspection, and quality documentation.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
• Follow all company safety, quality, security, and manufacturing procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
• Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and quality personnel to improve machining processes.
• Protect sensitive company and customer information and comply with requirements associated with government and defense-related work.
• Contribute positively to a team culture built around accountability, continuous improvement, and pride in workmanship.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating CNC milling machines in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments, including micrometers and calipers.
• Knowledge of metal properties, cutting tools, machining processes, and milling techniques.
• Basic understanding of CNC programming; G-code knowledge is preferred.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Strong problem-solving and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Dependable, motivated, and willing to take ownership of assigned work.
• Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain accurate documentation.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
• Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and grow as Himes Machine expands.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift and handle materials as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification or technical training in CNC machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field.
• Experience with CAD/CAM software, including Mastercam or SolidWorks.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous-improvement principles.
• Previous experience producing components for government, defense, aerospace, or other highly regulated industries.
• Familiarity with controlled documentation, traceability, and rigorous quality requirements.
