The Lead Fire Protection Engineer heads a team responsible for developing fire protection engineering judgments and providing technical guidance to designers, inspectors, and installers of firestop systems. This role oversees a cluster of fire protection engineers to ensure delivery of timely, accurate, and technically sound fire protection solutions. The Lead Fire Protection Engineer establishes technical excellence, drives team development, and collaborates cross-functionally to support broader organizational goals.
What You'll do
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of fire protection engineers.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive team culture that emphasizes technical excellence, professional growth, and accountability.
Work directly with architects, engineers, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) to deliver passive fire protection solutions for major projects throughout North America.
Support field sales and technical teams with engineering expertise, code interpretations, and system recommendations.
Serve as a subject-matter expert on firestop system performance and the Hilti fire protection portfolio.
Ensure the team’s engineering output meets high standards of accuracy, constructability, and compliance to mitigate technical and commercial risk.
Oversee the development of fire protection engineering judgments that align with applicable UL/ASTM fire testing standards and North American building codes.
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
7 years of technical experience in the fire protection field.
3 years designing fire protection systems is preferred. Design in other engineering fields will be considered.
Strong understanding of UL 1479 / ASTM E814, UL 263 / ASTM E119, UL 2079 / ASTM E1966, and related fire test standards.
Working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) and Canadian building code requirements.
Experience providing technical guidance to engineers, contractors, designers, and inspectors.
Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
Strong desire to coach, mentor, and lead technical professionals.
