Our Quality Control Inspectors uphold Hilman’s commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction in an ISO 9001 Certified industrial manufacturing environment.
You will inspect incoming raw materials (steel plates, bars), component parts (chain links, pins), and outsourced operations (heat-treated parts, galvanized, and other specialty coated parts).
With you serving as our firm advocate of quality, Hilman products will meet all applicable customer and regulatory requirements and be perfectly crafted before making it to our customers.
What you’ll do
- You will report to our Quality Control Manager in the Production Support department.
- Your main responsibilities will fall into two categories: 1) inspections and 2) documentation.
- You will complete detailed and well-documented inspection records ahead of what can sometimes be tight delivery schedules, but we will never expect you to sacrifice quality for speed.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and instructions to understand the quality expectations for the product and supplies under review before beginning your inspection.
- Approve or reject raw materials, component parts, and outsourced operations and process conforming and nonconforming parts according to procedure.
- Maintain accurate and easily accessible information including inspection records, records of testing, and various metrics such as number of defective products per day, etc. that is used by other departments.
- Perform first piece, in-process, and final verifications/inspections where required.
- May be required to participate in ISO 9001 efforts, including audit preparation, maintaining quality documentation and manuals, internal ISO awareness training, etc.
Your areas of expertise that matter most for this role
- You have a strong attention to detail and at least 2 years of prior quality experience.
- You are comfortable measuring objects using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and similar equipment.
- You have or are eager to learn how to operate overhead cranes and forklifts to lift heavy products.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel (basic functions; enter, sort, filter, and format data) and Outlook (email/time management, schedule, keep appointments, follow-up).
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1 structural welding code, GD&T, and NDT.
- Must be able to successfully complete PIP Color & Jaeger J1 vision tests.
Physical demands and work environment
- Continually required to stand and frequently required to sit and walk.
- Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
- Occasionally required to bend, stoop, or kneel.
- Frequently required to talk or hear.
- Continually utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and use a shop computer.
- Continually required to safely lift/push/carry items up to and more than 50 pounds.
- Frequent work near moving mechanical parts.
- Occasional work around fumes and airborne particles.
- Occasionally exposed to loud noises (>85dB) due to machinery and manufacturing operations.

Pay: $58,000.00 - $64,000.00 per year
