With approximately 130 dedicated staff members, we are committed to preserving this cultural treasure and sharing it with visitors from around the world.Position SummaryThe Facilities Engineer plays a critical role in maintaining the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems that protect our irreplaceable collections and ensure visitor comfort. This position requires a skilled professional who can independently manage complex building systems while working collaboratively with our Facilities team to maintain the highest standards of preventive maintenance and operational excellence.Key ResponsibilitiesBuilding Systems ManagementOperate, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, air handlers, and controlsMonitor and maintain building automation systems (BAS) to ensure optimal environmental conditions for art preservationPerform preventive maintenance on all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipmentRespond to emergency maintenance requests and system failuresTechnical OperationsConduct daily rounds and inspections of mechanical rooms and equipmentMaintain accurate logs and records of equipment operations and maintenance activitiesAssist with the implementation of energy conservation initiativesSupport capital improvement projects and equipment upgradesCollaboration & SafetyWork closely with Collections, Security, and other departments to minimize disruption during maintenance activitiesEnsure compliance with all safety regulations and building codesParticipate in emergency preparedness drills and proceduresMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work environmentRequired QualificationsMinimum 5 years of experience in facilities engineering, building maintenance, or related fieldStrong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systemsExperience with building automation systems (BAS) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)EPA Universal Refrigerant CertificationValid driver's license with clean driving recordAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication skills and ability to work collaborativelyPreferred QualificationsTrade school certification or associate degree in HVAC, electrical, or mechanical systemsExperience working in museums, historic properties, or cultural institutionsBoiler operator's licenseElectrical license or certificationExperience with emergency generators and UPS systemsWhat We OfferHillwood provides a comprehensive benefits package including:Competitive salary Medical, dental, and vision insurance403(b) retirement plan with employer matchGenerous paid time off including vacation, sick leave, and holidaysProfessional development opportunitiesFree parking and Metro accessibilityComplimentary admission to the museumBeautiful work environment in a historic settingOur Commitment to StaffHillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens is committed to creating an inclusive environment that welcomes and values different perspectives.
