HilltopSecurities is seeking a part-time Intern to join our Public Finance & Fixed Income Capital Markets team in Chicago. This is a part-time support role and is an onsite position. The role will offer hands-on experience, allowing you to apply practical knowledge while supporting key initiatives. You’ll work independently under general supervision and gain insight into the daily operations and procedures that keep our organization running. About The Team
HilltopSecurities’ Fixed Income department has over 2,000 Tier I institutional and middle market clients in all 50 states. We focus on three classes of fixed income investments—municipal, taxable, and securitized products. We are able to access a wide range of investment products for our clients, such as GSE agencies, commercial paper, CDs, CMOs, municipals, and corporate and mortgage-backed municipal securities. Our total balance sheet for all products reaches $1 billion, thanks to our more than 100 sales and trading professionals across the county, each of whom provide keen financial guidance. Our department participates in syndication and primary issuance, as well as three types of sales and trading—fixed income, securitized products, and investment grade and high yield. Our capabilities also include supporting the primary issuance of negotiated and competitive securities, HFA pooled securities, and state HFA CMOs.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with Traders and Public Finance bankers to support this line of business, including opportunity to perform data analysis and deliver presentations to Public Finance leadership and training on municipal finance.
- Perform financial data analysis
- Review client memos, assist with development of presentation materials and proposals for new and existing clients
- Shadow full-time employees as they interact with potential and existing clients
- Assist Public Finance bankers and disclosure departments
- Other duties as assigned
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Rising Senior pursuing finance or related field is preferred
- Some experience (0 – 1 year) is preferred but not required
- Strong interest in investment banking
- Computer hardware, operating system (Windows or Mac), and software/application (MS Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook etc.) skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
- Proven self-starter who can initiate tasks and follow up to completion
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills
- Desire to learn about career opportunities in the financial services industry
- Candidate MUST have authorization to work for any employer in the US without requiring sponsorship, whether in student status or not
