We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Peer Specialist to join our team at Hillsborough Recovery Coalition, a Recovery Community Organization (RCO). As a Peer Specialist, you will play a key role in providing peer support services to individuals in recovery, guiding them through their recovery journeys, and fostering a sense of community. You will also be responsible for outreach initiatives that aim to engage individuals in the community, providing them with resources, education, and support.
The Peer Specialist will use lived experience of recovery to connect with others, offering hope, strength, and motivation, while promoting self-empowerment and advocacy. Key Responsibilities:
Outreach and Community Engagement -
- Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness about recovery resources, events, and services available to individuals seeking help.
- Build relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and local agencies to foster collaborative support for individuals in recovery.
- Attend community events, fairs, and other relevant gatherings to promote the organization’s programs and recovery services.
- Engage with individuals who are new to recovery or at risk of relapse, providing resources, encouragement, and support to help them connect with the recovery community.
- Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders to coordinate services and ensure comprehensive support for individuals in recovery.
Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age
- Must provide proof of a High School Diploma or a GED
- Lived experience in recovery (minimum of 2 years) with an understanding of the challenges faced by individuals in recovery.
- Certification as a Peer Specialist or willingness to complete certification in 1 year upon hire.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while offering emotional and practical support.
- Understanding of recovery principles, advocacy, and the peer support model.
- Basic computer skills (email, word processing, data entry).
- Must be able to pass a level 2 background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with outreach activities and building community connections.
- Experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders (substance use and mental health challenges).
- Familiarity with local recovery resources, treatment providers, and community organizations.
