Summary:

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides short-term supports for designated settings and/or students on school campuses. Related supports include information gathering for the school problem-solving team, direct instruction and intervention with students, transferring service delivery to site-based personnel, and fading of goals and necessary services.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in conducting functional behavior assessments.
  • Conducts fidelity checks to ensure proper implementation of behavior and/or instructional procedures.
  • Inputs and analyzes behavior data as trained by the BCBA. Assists the BCBA in analyzing student behavioral and instructional (antecedent) data.
  • Records behavioral and instructional data in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.
  • Assesses student reinforcers and reinforcement strategies.Implements established classroom behavior management procedures.
  • Models/assists teachers with implementation of behavior management strategies.
  • Implements research-based instructional and behavioral programs.
  • Implements district safety management training procedures as prescribed.
  • Assists teachers with development of student training materials.
  • Assists in implementation of activities of daily living programs, including feeding and toileting.
  • Implements program generalization strategies in community, home, and other environments.
  • Participates in staff meetings/trainings as directed by the BCBA, including biweekly scheduled supervision meetings with the BCBA.
  • Communicates relevant behavior information to classroom staff daily or as needed.
  • Completes all forms, reports, and other paperwork in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner. Organizes and maintains student/program information.
  • Maintains current knowledge of each student's special circumstances and needs.
  • Understands the core underlying principles of applied behavior analysis.
  • Knows district policies and procedures.
  • Possesses knowledge of the schoolwide behavior management system.
  • Knows verbal and non-verbal intervention strategies.
  • Knows all individual behavior support programs for assigned students.
  • Prepares for and conducts skill training sessions.
  • Assists with training, modeling, and direct coaching of instructional, para-educational and support staff, and other stakeholders (e.g., family, caregivers, other professionals) who will deliver the intervention and record data.
  • Assists with crisis/emergency procedures according to protocol.
  • Complies with applicable legal, regulatory, and workplace reporting requirements (e.g., restraint and seclusion, abuse and neglect, data collection, storage, and transportation).
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Safety & Security: Observes safety and security procedures. Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines. Uses equipment and materials properly. Reports potentially unsafe conditions.

Qualifications:

Education: A high school diploma or GED. Completion of 40-hour Registered Behavior Technician coursework, annual competency assessment, and pass the RBT certification examination.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in providing behavior or instructional support to students with disabilities preferred.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Registered Behavior Technician credential under the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.

Language Skills: Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals. Writes routine reports and correspondence. Speaks effectively before groups of individuals.

Mathematical Skills: Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Computes rate, ratio, and percent and draws and interprets bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Applies common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deals with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: Knowledge of relevant and current computer software programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical Activities: Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling, handling, keyboarding. Lifting Demands: Up to 55 pounds.

Reaching Activities: Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.

Environmental Conditions: Noise intensity 5: Very Loud.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This position requires traveling to various school sites, work locations, and/or community organizations throughout the district.
