The Surgical Instrument Resource Coordinator is responsible for working with vendors, Operating Room Service Coordinators, Units, and Clinics to provide instrument price analysis, procurement, repairs, replacement and maintenance as well as keeping up with regulatory updates and responsibilities. Troubleshoot with IT support for computer and SPM tracking system issues, updates and advances. Maintain and update competencies, SOP’s in relation to surgical instrumentation and department processes. Contributes to a positive work environment that promotes HMC values.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
Sterile Processing Education & Coordination. Representative duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Staff education and in-service scheduling for new products and/or policies, serving as a resource for staff and helping promote growth of co-workers
- Assist with department Competencies, SOP’s and Policy’s
- SPM tracking system Management and Updates, enter new items and updates into tracking system
- Implement or update work order forms for units/clinics
- Performs various Sterile Processing instrument projects, quality improvement and performance improvement audits, design and enhancement of projects
- Assist when onboarding new Doctors
- Acts as a role model for department employees and displays professional behavior.
- May provide backup to Sterile Processing Lead and Technicians, as needed
- Create count sheets for consigned trays in SPM, take pictures of new consigned trays
- Identifies the need to increase instrument inventory based on surgery volume and requests
- Ensure trays coming in are acceptable and have proper documentation. (IFU’s and on contract for HMC)
- Review submitted tray change forms for new and updated trays
- Look through back stock for items already on hand, troubleshoot missing items and replacements
- Work with Service Leads to troubleshoot better pricing on alternative instruments
- Reach out to instrument and product Vendors to secure pricing and IFU’s as well as requesting samples
- Provide cost analysis and seek better pricing from vendors
- Coordination of instrument repair and maintenance with vendors on instrumentation and equipment
- Support DNV audits (Environment of Care, OnSource Education, Documentation of Sterilization Records)
- Ensure proper documentation for trays (e.g., IFUs, contracts for HMC)
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Required:
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma / GED
- Minimum of three (3) years Sterile Processing Technician experience with emphasis and strong knowledge of instrumentation processing and sterilization
- Previous Leadership experience- Leading, guiding and developing teams both internal and external.
- Current membership in a professional organization related to Sterile Processing
Required:
- Current Sterile Processing Certification from CBSPD or HSPA
- Certified Instrumentation Specialist (CIS) or Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CSIS)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Instrument Resource with SPM Instrument Tracking System database or any other similar software and database management
- Instrument and equipment inventory management
- Sterile Processing procedures and best practices
- Procurement and vendor coordination
- Operating Room (OR) workflows
- Effective verbal and written communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills
- Time management, prioritization, attention to detail, and multitasking
- Instrument and equipment repair/replacement coordination with customers and outside vendors
- Instructional and training skills

- Manage and maintain instrument and equipment inventory, in accordance with the department’s budget
- Manage the database of SPM Instrument Tracking System, including providing IT support for staff
- Collaborate effectively with healthcare team members
- Identify the need to increase instrument inventory based on volume of surgical cases and surgeon requests, and work with vendors for pricing and procurement
