Duties
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to ensure comfort and dignity.
- Take and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates with precision and adherence to protocols.
- Support medical procedures by preparing patients, maintaining aseptic techniques, and assisting with specimen collection like phlebotomy when qualified.
- Document patient information accurately using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems while maintaining strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Monitor patient conditions closely, report changes promptly to nursing staff, and assist with emergency response procedures including CPR and safe lifting practices like Hoyer lift usage.
- Facilitate communication between patients and healthcare providers to ensure clear understanding of care plans and needs.
- Assist with transfers using patient transfer methods such as gait belts or wheelchairs, ensuring safety at all times.
Experience
- Proven experience working as a CNA or in a similar caregiving role within long-term care facilities, hospitals, or community health settings.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, vital signs measurement, and basic life support (BLS) certification required; CPR certification preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations including geriatric patients, individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, behavioral health needs, and pediatric patients.
- Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation and record management.
- Hands-on experience with patient transfer methods including Hoyer lifts and safe manual handling practices in accordance with OSHA standards.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments such as ICU, emergency medicine, trauma centers (Level I & II), or post-acute care settings requiring acute care experience.
- Strong communication skills for caregiving interactions and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams committed to delivering exceptional patient service.
