Job Summary

As an Estimator at Hill & Wilkinson, you will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase of large commercial projects, valued between $10 million and $100 million. Your primary responsibilities include analyzing project plans and specifications, preparing accurate cost estimates, and developing comprehensive bid proposals. You will collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather necessary information and ensure all costs are accounted for. Your attention to detail and analytical skills will be essential in identifying potential cost savings and minimizing project risks. This position requires a strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards, as well as excellent communication and negotiation skills. Key Responsibilities:

• Cost Estimation: The primary responsibility is to accurately calculate the total cost of a construction project by analyzing factors like materials, labor, equipment, and time required.
• Document Review: Thoroughly reviewing project plans, blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to understand the project scope.
• Quantity Takeoff: Calculating the quantities of materials needed for a project based on the drawings. Labor Cost Analysis: Assessing the labor requirements and associated costs for different construction tasks.
• Subcontractor Quotes: Gathering cost estimates from subcontractors for specialized work.
• Risk Assessment: Identifying potential risks and contingencies that could impact project costs
• Bid Development: Preparing competitive bids for construction projects, including cost breakdowns and project timelines
• Client Communication: Presenting cost estimates to clients, addressing questions, and negotiating contract terms
• Project Qualification: Evaluating whether a project aligns with the company's capabilities and strategic goals before bidding
• Software Proficiency: Utilizing construction estimating software to generate accurate cost calculations and reports

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering preferred or equivalent years of experience in Project Scheduling
• Proven history of successfully running large commercial projects as the lead person on the jobsite. Proficiency in developing, resource loading, analyzing and reporting on project schedule
• Strong organization and communication skills a must
• Honest, dependable, responsible & attentive.

• Able to read Civil, Architectural, Structural, and MEP drawings and specifications.
• Proficient with technology and software used by H&W Preconstruction team (Excel, OST, Blue Beam).
• Detail oriented and organized.
• Manage time without supervision
• Effective & clear communication - both oral & written.
• Understanding of the scope of work typically provided by each trade.
• Understanding of all general & H&W preconstruction procedures.
