What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pre-Med Medical Assistant - Vascular Surgery position at Hill Vascular & Vein Center?
Hill Vascular & Vein Center is seeking highly motivated recent college graduates pursuing medical school to join our full-time Pre-Medical Assistant (PMA) program. This is a paid, hands-on clinical experience in an outpatient vascular surgery practice and ambulatory surgical setting.
This position is designed for applicants taking a gap year (or two) before medical school while studying for the MCAT or completing applications.
Minimum 52-weeks of work commitment required.
Recent BS/BA graduates only.
BLS Certification.
What You Will Do
PMAs receive structured training and progressive responsibility, including:
Front Office & Clinical Foundations
- Patient check-in and phone triage
- Scheduling & patient intake
- EMR/EHR documentation & chart prep
- Insurance coordination, referrals, authorizations
- General clinical support
Clinical Exposure & Skills Development
- Rooming patients and vital signs
- Shadowing providers and learning scribing
- Assisting with minor vascular procedures
- Pre- and post-operative patient support
- Observing vascular procedures in our outpatient angiography suite
Advanced Surgical Exposure (Earned Privilege)
PMAs who consistently demonstrate excellence in:
- Clinical knowledge, surgical terminology, vascular terminology
- Professionalism and reliability
- Patient-first teamwork and communication
- Ability to perform in time-sensitive environments
MAY earn the opportunity to work in various support roles in outpatient surgical procedures.
Procedural participation is earned — not guaranteed — based on demonstrated readiness, safety, competency, and reliability.
Who We're Looking For
- Recent graduate (BS/BA required)
- Intending to apply to medical school (MD or DO path)
- Able to work full time for 52 weeks
- Reliable, motivated, and professional
- Excellent communication and time-management skills
- Passion for patient care and learning in a surgical environment
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliant)

Schedule
- Job Type: Part-time
- Location: Campbell, CA (on-site), Santa Cruz, CA (on-site)
- Monday – Friday, daytime schedule
- Healthcare setting with direct patient interaction
