About the Program:
Pathways to Independence (P2I) is a dynamic summer program designed for neurodiverse young adults (grades 9-13) who are preparing for the transition from high school to adulthood. Rooted in real-world experiences, the program focuses on developing essential life, social, and vocational skills through engaging workshops, hands-on activities, community outings, and on-site work experiences.
Position Summary:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, responsible, and empathetic individual to serve as camp counselor for our Pathways to Independence program. Counselors play a key role in supporting participants as they build confidence, learn new skills, and take meaningful steps toward independent living and employment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support and guidance to participants in daily camp activities, including independent living skills, social skills development, and community-based experiences.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive environment where neurodiverse young adult campers feel encouraged and empowered.
- Assist with the planning, organization, and facilitation of structured workshops and group discussions.
- Support campers during off-campus outings, including shopping excursions, college tours, and workplace visits.
- Collaborate with program staff to monitor camper progress and communicate observations as needed.Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating respectful communication, problem-solving, and adaptability.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to ensure consistent and individualized support.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, special education, occupational therapy, social work, or a related field is required.
- Experience working with neurodiverse individuals, particularly adolescents or young adults, is strongly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be patient, empathetic, and flexible in dynamic environments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- FBI background check, Pennsylvania State Police criminal record check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, and fingerprinting is required.
Schedule:
Camp runs from June 22nd to July 31st. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:45am to 3:45pm.
Potential Training days may be needed prior to camp and will be scheduled in advance.
Compensation:
This is a seasonal position. Pay is $3700 for the entire season.
