Primary Purpose:
Assist the teacher in implementing classroom activities and maintaining a safe, nurturing environment for preschool students. Under the supervision of a certified teacher, support daily routines, documentation, and communication to ensure compliance with district standards.
Qualifications:
Education
Must meet one of the following requirements
- High school graduate or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate, and the ability to pass a locally approved paraprofessional academic assessment; or
- Completion of 48 semester hours of college credit; or
- Associate degree or higher
Certification
- Current Texas Educational Aide certificate issued by the State Board for Educator Certification, or ability to obtain upon hire
Experience
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Experience working with children, preferably in a childcare, preschool, or early learning environment
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to work effectively and patiently with young children in both individual and group settings
- Proficient organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Support
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Support the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or student assignments.
- Help maintain a neat, orderly, and engaging classroom environment.
- Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
- Support teacher in maintaining administrative records and preparing required reports.
- Provide instructional and classroom support to multiple teachers or students as assigned, which may include rotating between classrooms.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Student Management
- Conduct instructional activities the teacher assigns, working with individual students or small groups.
- Supervise students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom (e.g., lunchroom, bus, and playground duty).
- Communicate student needs or concerns to the teacher promptly and appropriately.
- Assist students with personal care needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, hygiene).
Additional Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all district policies, procedures, and expectations as outlined in the employee handbook and administrative regulations.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Participate in professional development, faculty/department meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Perform additional duties assigned to support the mission and goals of the campus and district.
