The Hyperbaric

Chamber Facilities Safety Director is responsible for the development,

implementation, and oversight of all safety protocols and operational

procedures within the hyperbaric oxygen therapy facility. The primary goal is

to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, maintaining

strict compliance with all relevant local, state, federal, and accrediting body

regulations and standards (e.g., NFPA 99, UHMS, OSHA). This role serves as the

technical expert and primary point of contact for all safety-related matters.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Program

Management & Compliance

  • Lead the hyperbaric safety program, developing, reviewing, and updating departmental safety policies and procedures in collaboration with medical and facility leadership.
  • Ensure full compliance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 99, Chapter 14 for multiplace and monoplace chambers, Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) guidelines and OSHA regulations.
  • Serve on the clinical safety or environment of care committee, representing the hyperbaric facility.
  • Conduct and coordinate regular, chamber and facility-specific safety drills (e.g., fire, equipment failure) to improve staff response to emergencies.
  • Review all department safety incidents, collect information regarding equipment/patient/staff safety, report relevant incidents, and assist the Medical Director in documenting safety-related events.

Equipment &

Facility Operations

  • Ensure the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and testing of all hyperbaric chamber systems and related support equipment (e.g., oxygen supply systems, patient monitoring systems).
  • Evaluate all equipment and supplies intended for use inside or around the chambers, with the authority to restrict or remove any potentially hazardous items.
  • Coordinate and approve all chamber upgrades, modifications, and repairs, ensuring they meet safety standards and work closely with facility maintenance personnel and outside contractors.
  • Maintain comprehensive maintenance logs, safety records.

Training &

Education

  • Provide leadership and safety training to all hyperbaric associates, new employees and patients.
  • Conduct in-service education sessions related to hyperbarics, safety protocols, and new procedures.
  • Orient and educate patients about hyperbaric oxygen therapy procedures and safety protocols.
  • Engages with the community by delivering educational materials and presentations on wound care, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and preventive health practices. Supports outreach initiatives by attending community events, collaborating with referral partners, and promoting awareness of Hill Country services

Clinical Support (as

needed and applicable by credentialing)

  • Perform hyperbaric chamber operator duties, which may include preparing patients for treatment, monitoring their responses during therapy, and making appropriate data entries.
  • Function as a chamber operator/tender on a rotational basis or as needed.

Required Education

& Certifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Occupational Safety Management, a medical-related field, or business/operations management (or equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree)  
  • Completion of Certified OSHA 10 Course
  • Completion of an approved 40-Hour Introductory Hyperbaric Medicine course recognized by NBDHMT.
  • Completion of an approved Hyperbaric Safety Director course recognized by NBDHMT.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the technical operation and maintenance management of hyperbaric chamber systems.
  • 10 years of experience preferred.
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role with proven ability to speak to and develop relations with the municipal first responders, medical providers, the general public and executive levels of leadership strongly preferred.
  • Required Knowledge,

Skills, & Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of safety standards and codes related to hyperbaric facilities (NFPA 99 and all associated NFPA chapters, UHMS, ASME, PVHO I & II, and CGA).
  • Proficiency with hyperbaric chamber systems and environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Strong leadership, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and stay calm during emergencies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Hill Country Wound Care Vascular and Hyperbarics, LLC operates multiple physician-based wound centers in the Greater San Antonio area. Our newest location in Bulverde, TX will help local patients heal their chronic wounds with various modalities, including the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. We also are a wound management company, with desire to build relationships with other well trained wound care doctors and clinicians in establishing new wound centers within the 50 states. The management company brings both ownership, buildout, credentialing, billing, payroll and operational support to those physicians and communities we serve.
