What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Hill Country Search Advisors, LLC?
Mid-sized, private company based in north Austin is hiring an Assistant Controller for a key position. This individual will manage a small team while reporting to the Controller/VP of Accounting, and taking on progressive levels of responsibility within the organization. While this is a full-cycle, hands-on accounting role with team leadership duties (including training, reviewing, and mentoring staff), the Assistant Controller will also gain increasing levels of exposure to the Executive team, strategic initiatives, and other big picture items. There will be plenty of room for growth and advancement for this individual within the company.
Job duties will include, although not be limited to:
- Hands-on oversight of the monthly close process, including account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and review of staff work
- Assisting the VP/Controller with preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements, along with Board of Director reports
- Oversight and review of the A/P and A/R functions, along with Payroll
- Working closely with external Auditors, along Tax firm and other 3rd party service providers
- Taking on progressive duties related to Budgeting, Analysis, and Treasury, among other items
- Training and mentoring Staff, while continuing to gain leadership responsibilities within the team
- Additional duties on an as-needed basis such as systems implementations & upgrades, ad-hoc reporting, and special projects.
To be considered, candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- At least eight (8 ) years of Accounting experience, including previous supervisory experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or related field, with significant Accounting hours) is required
- CPA or CPA candidate is preferred, although not required
- Previous experience working for a small or mid-sized company is desirable
- Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with proven team leadership abilities
- Prior experience utilizing accounting ERP systems, along with strong Excel skills
