The Inpatient Care Specialist (PRN) working at the Inpatient Crisis Facilities will support the multidisciplinary teams by ensuring patients' basic needs are met, providing monitoring of administered medications, meals, hygiene, and sleep. The Inpatient Care Specialist will monitor the patient's behavior and provide support when needed. The Inpatient Care Specialist will also provide clear communication of shift reports to the Charge Nurse.

You will get to:

  • Complete all assigned intake/admission forms and discharge forms in the electronic health record using the checklist of forms required to be completed. Provide follow-up on forms and/or explanation of forms when tasks cannot be completed upon admission.
  • Observe and monitor patients' behavior and report observations to professional staff. Complete rounds at intervals required by the assigned level of monitoring. Monitor patients' physical and emotional well-being and report behavioral or physical concerns to nursing and medical staff. Promptly report behavioral, physical, and emotional concerns of patients to the Charge Nurse.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient responses, vital signs, input/output forms, and daily observation notes. Complete any additional documentation daily as needed for patient care.
  • Assist patients by serving and assisting with meals, hygiene, laundry, and other needs.
  • Facilitate and assist patients with recreational and/or educational group activities, document attendance and participation, and promote client wellness and independence.
  • Assist in cleaning and disinfecting rooms and furnishings on admission and during patients' stay. Clean and disinfect assigned program areas daily and/or after each use.
  • Follow facility safety and infection control guidelines and identify/report safety or infection control issues as they arise. Participate in fire and disaster drills and report any safety concerns. Complete documentation of drills completed and identify patient concerns to the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Demonstrate understanding of client rights and abuse and neglect standards, reporting concerns per policy, and maintaining strict confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Provide escort and/or transportation services as assigned for patients in treatment and/or at the time of discharge. Practice safe driving when using company vehicles and report any vehicle issues for maintenance and repair.
  • Perform Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques as required according to agency guidelines.
  • Provide assistance and support within the facility with additional tasks as requested.
  • Attend work as scheduled on a regular, consistent basis. Follow agency rules regarding time and attendance, scheduling adjustments, and requests for time off.

    You'll definitely need:

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Minimum 1 year of experience collaborating with patients with psychiatric diagnoses.
    • Maintain a valid Texas state Driver's License and auto insurance.
    • Complete and maintain both CPR certification and Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior training within the first 3 months of employment, and maintain certification without interruption thereafter.
