Job description:

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: The Assistant Food Manager (AFM) assists with all HCCM food programs, focusing primarily on the Fresh Food For All (FFFA) program. The AFM would be directly involved in feeding thousands of our neighbors in Williamson and northwest Travis counties Through the FFFA Program. This is a physically challenging, public-facing role providing a mix of behind-the-scenes preparation, physical labor, and direct client service. Applicant must be able to consistently lift 50 pounds multiple times without assistance. Position requires frequently loading and unloading trucks of produce and other grocery items. (Stacking, moving, carrying 40-50 pounds every shift) This job requires the ability to drive and maneuver a 14 foot truck and operate lifts. While half the job requires coordinating each food distribution, the AFM is also tasked with helping maintain inventory, assisting the Food Program Manager, and executing various tasks as needed.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage Fresh Food For All distributions each month, at the discretion and direction of the Food Program Manager, including directing volunteers, moving food, and ensuring accurate data collection.
  • Independently move large quantities of food in up to 50-pound cases.
  • Loading and unloading trucks regardless of weather conditions
  • Provide direct assistance to clients of varying backgrounds; conduct client intake and data entry and ensure security and confidentiality of client information.
  • Model for volunteers a client-centered, compassionate, non-judgmental approach. Model for volunteers a willingness to serve with composure in the face of challenges.
  • Track inventory and ensure up-to-date counts in advance of biweekly orders to Central Texas Food Bank.
  • Direct volunteers in proper placement of frozen, refrigerated, and dry items.

MINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a working knowledge of community resources in anticipation of client questions and concerns.
  • Follow procedures for waste management including recycling policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all HCCM policies and food safety standards.
  • Be comfortable occasionally working in walk-in cooler/freezer conditions.
  • Cover in other duties assisting with the food pantry, retail donation pickups, data entry, and administrative tasks.
  • Potentially represent HCCM in meetings with existing and prospective community partners.
  • Perform a variety of additional duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:

  • Ideally, prior experience in a non-profit organization; Preference: Bilingual: English and Spanish; Prior experience working with historically underserved populations; Demonstrated interest, knowledge, understanding, familiarity, and sensitivity to hunger and poverty issues;
  • Physical stamina for duration of shift
  • Experience driving box trucks up to 14 feet.
  • Ability to work between Monday to Friday each week—typical hours are between 7am to 3pm; expected to work some Thursday evenings as needed (at least once a month), and two Saturdays a month. (The AFM is expected to work at least 85% of their required Saturday shifts)

Job Type: Part-time/Full time. Opportunities to grow based on performance.

  • Paid time off

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday (one Thursday evening a month)
  • Weekends twice a month (maximum 5 hours each Saturday)
