Elementary Special Education Administrator
Job Summary:
The Harvard Public Schools seeks a dynamic and compassionate individual to serve as the Special Education Administrator grades PreK-5. This position oversees Special Education Programming in grades PreK-5. The Administrator supervises and evaluates special education staff including teachers, related service providers and Learning Assistants. The Administrator provides building leadership, guidance and coaching for special education team members, and coordinates and monitors implementation of all department policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory timelines and mandates. This is a full-year position that includes summer obligations.
Reports to: Director of Pupil Services and Building Principals
Responsibilities:
-Overseeing Special Education Programming at their designated school.
-Supervising and evaluating teachers, related service providers, and Learning Assistants at their designated school.
-Participates with building and district administrators in the recruitment, selection and assignment of all special education personnel and recommends continued employment or non-renewal of all special education professional and support staff personnel.
-Facilitates and chairs IEP meetings for all initial evaluations and other meetings as needed, and serves as the chairperson of the teams to ensure the implementation of Special Education regulations and mandates.
-Ensures that the special education process from eligibility to IEP to implementation is administered with equity and excellence for all, ensuring that students from diverse linguistic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds are not systematically referred to special education and are neither over-nor-underrepresented in special education.
-Coordinates IEP progress report development and timelines, ensuring that progress reports are provided to families in a timely fashion and that appropriate steps are taken by IEP teams when students do not make progress on IEP goals.
-Understands themself as an integral member of the building and district educational leadership team that effectively communicates to staff, parents, students, and community members a systemic approach that models teamwork, encourages collegiality, and supports collaboration.
-Collaborates with other school staff with creation or modification of the master schedule as related to special education services, programs, courses, and students.
-Conducting and/or overseeing the administration of special education evaluations
-Serving as the onsite administrative representative for the Director of Pupil Services
-Assistance and contribution to the departmental budget process.
-Serves as department leader at building level leadership meetings, facilitates department meetings for special education staff and regularly meets with district leadership and job-alike colleagues.
-Participates in the identification, planning, and implementation of Professional Development opportunities.
-Oversees accommodations and/or modifications for state assessment testing, including alternative assessment portfolios.
-Provides feedback to district leadership regarding programs, services, and needs related to special education.
-Researches and shares best practices for educational interventions, accommodations and modifications to meet the individual needs of students.
-Acts as Out of District Liaison to assigned cases and tracks students including homeschool, parochial, private and collaborative cases to assure compliance with review meetings and re-evaluation timelines.
-Prepares local, state and federal reports, as may be required.
-Collaborates with the Director of Pupil Services to coordinate and supervise Extended School Year Services.
-Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the Director of Pupil Services or Building Principal may assign.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
-Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
-Minimum three years special education teaching or services experience.
-Special Education Administrator license or Supervisor/Director license in related fields.
-Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Master’s Degree preferred.
-Teaching experience and Supervisory Experience at the appropriate grade levels of assignment preferred.
