Front end Loader/Switcher Operator/Yard Worker Position:( NOT A FORKLIFT OPERATOR) In this role, the operator is responsible for maneuvering a switcher tractor at a municipal solid waste transfer station. Daily tasks include conducting equipment maintenance inspections, such as adding fuel and lubricant oils, greasing machine components, cleaning radiators, checking filters, etc. Detailed records of loaded trailers, equipment inspections, and random waste inspections must be maintained.
Maintain cleanliness of the transfer station grounds by picking up trash, debris, and waste materials daily. Ensure all public and operational areas remain free of litter and hazards at all time
The operator will be handling a switcher truck to navigate 48’ and 51’ foot trailers around the yard and in and out of a loading pit. Proficiency in maneuvering and backing trailers is essential. Connecting and disconnecting trailers from road or switcher tractors, as well as rolling and unrolling trailer tarps using a 12’ tarp handle, are also part of the job requirements.
Physical capabilities include climbing ladders and stairs, along with performing strenuous overhead work. Daily maintenance and inspections on switcher trucks are mandatory. Effective teamwork and communication with crew members, drivers, and customers are crucial. Familiarity with the facility operations plan is necessary, as is the ability to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) including a hard hat, safety vest, work gloves, and safety glasses. Steel-toe work boots are a must, to be provided by the employee.
The work environment is outdoors and exposes the operator to all weather conditions. Additionally, there will be exposure to diesel fuel, grease, motor oil, hydraulic oil, antifreeze, and solid waste.
CDL not required.
