Summary:
The Painter I (Entry Level) supports Painter II and Lead Painters by assisting with surface preparation, coating application, finishing, and jobsite protection across residential and light commercial projects. This role is focused on developing foundational painting skills, safety awareness, and finish-quality standards through structured on-the-job training. This position works under supervision.
Essential Functions:
- Assists with surface preparation including scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, and masking
- Applies primers, paints, stains, and sealers using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment under supervision
- Protects surrounding surfaces using drop cloths, plastic, tape, and containment systems
- Assists with ladder, scaffold, and work-platform setup and teardown
- Cleans and maintains brushes, rollers, sprayers, and related equipment
- Supports interior and exterior painting projects including repaints, turnovers, and remodels
- Maintains clean and organized work areas
- Follows safety procedures including PPE, ladder safety, fall protection, and respirator requirements
- Participates in required training and field instruction
Other Functions:
- Assists with punch list items, warranty work, and touch-ups
- Helps stage materials and maintain inventory
- Supports jobsite cleanup and final presentation
- Assists with maintaining company vehicles and tools
Mental and Physical Demands:
- Regular lifting and carrying of 50–75 lbs, and occasional lifting of up to 75-100 lbs
- Works on ladders, scaffolding, and elevated surfaces
- Exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, and weather conditions
- Repetitive motion including bending, kneeling, and overhead work
- Requires attention to detail and adherence to safety practices
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- No supervisory duties
Core Competencies/Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- 0–3 years painting or construction experience
- Willingness to learn and follow direction
- Basic tool knowledge and strong work ethic
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in active jobsite environments
- Valid California driver’s license with clean driving record
