What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian (Full-Time) Day position at Higley Unified School District?
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
- Responsible for the cleaning of the facility on a daily basis. This includes: cleaning windows, dusting, sweeping and mopping hard surface floors, vacuuming carpeted areas, sinks, toilets, hallways, walls, desks, and chairs. Cleans cafeteria floor after lunch.
- Removes trash from classrooms, outdoor receptacles, and cafeteria and takes out to dumpster.
- Secures campus doors and gates at end of day.
- Cleans up biohazards in accordance with prescribed procedures.
- Conducts thorough and more detailed cleaning of facility during school breaks and summer.
- Sets up and takes down equipment needed for sporting events and other campus events.
- Due to the potential for access to confidential information, it is absolutely mandatory that this position safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of the information stored and discussed in the areas for which this position has access.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Education preferred.
- Effective communicator who works harmoniously with children and adults.
- Good physical condition with an emphasis on sight and hearing. Must be able to work at a fast pace and walk a substantial distance (depending on the campus) during shift.
- First Aid Trained preferred.
- Ability to pass background and reference checking as stipulated by District standards.
- A valid driver's license and/or a CDL, if driving is required as part of your position description. The District shall be entitled to review your driving record periodically with the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles;
- IVP Valid Fingerprint Card.

- Moving about on foot with minimal rest.
- Occasionally remain in a seated position or remain on one’s feet in an upright position at a location without moving about.
- Raising or lowering objects from one level to another from 25 – 50 lbs.
- Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force or towards the force.
- Frequently required to position body to perform cleaning duties by bending body downward and forward at the waist often requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles, bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
- Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching on narrow slippery surfaces.
- Occasionally ascending or descending ladders and stairs using feet and legs or hands and arms.
- Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction while holding brooms, mops, spray bottles, vacuums, and other tools to complete tasks.
- Clarity of vision at various ranges up to 20 feet including observing an area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.
