Lead Mechanics are responsible for performing preventative maintenance and general repairs on tractors and trailers to comply with company and DOT standards. Lead Mechanics regard quality, safety, and equipment utilization as their primary focus. Lead Mechanics are the diagnostic and service providers for drivers and carrier clients and ensure their needs are met including effective communication on all repairs. Lead Mechanics are also responsible for supporting inventory control and providing accurate documentation. Lead Mechanics are relied on daily to aide others in keeping our fleet of trucks and trailers readily available and in top condition. Lead Mechanics are responsible for supporting management and holding other assigned mechanics accountable for all of these expectations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for daily/shift operation of maintenance shop
- Organizes daily maintenance
- Sees that proper procedures are followed
- Reports necessary information to immediate supervisor
- Inventory controls and processing order paperwork
- Preventative Maintenance
- DOT inspections
- HM, VIK, and UC inspection (trailer mechanics)
- Brake inspections and repairs
- Service Air systems and brakes
- Advanced level diagnostics and repairs related to any system of the assigned equipment; for example: suspension, drive train, HVAC, electrical, damage repair, valve repair, etc.
- Ability to troubleshoot failures of all components
- Lift and install heavy components of CMVs such as starters, clutches, brake drums, etc. (pending equipment assignment)
- Ensure that all parts and labor are accurately charged to the proper repair order
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment that complies with OSHA standards
- Welding and light fabricating
- Ensure equipment has required licensing and registration prior to being deemed as “roadworthy”
- Practices safe work habits as outlined by the company and local authorities.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2 years of industry experience maintaining Class 8 commercial vehicles
- Technical school certification or advanced degree in diesel engines, electronics, and/or related field, minimum of 2 year of relevant experience in medium to heavy duty truck repairs. The ability to demonstrate successful welding skills in non-standard situations and on varying materials is a plus
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and personal liability insurance coverage at or above the legal state of residence minimum requirements
- Air brake qualified
- DOT / FHWA inspection qualified
- Trailer chassis experience
- Demonstrated ability to follow schedules, instructions, wiring diagrams, maintenance guidelines, and other procedures associated with the maintenance of tractor, trailer components
- Ability to learn and use TMT Transman software and laptop diagnostic software
- Demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to make logical decisions in support of business demands
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively over the phone and face to face, building solid working relationships with team members, all Veriha employees and vendors
- Use effective time management techniques and demonstrate the ability to prioritize and multitask without negatively impacting performance or results
- Must be able to effectively and accurately complete detailed work with a sense of urgency; always keeping safety at the forefront and demonstrating safe operating procedures
- Demonstrate the ability to anticipate and evaluate problems and situations and draw logical conclusions to make successful repairs
- Computer skills, data accuracy, and a willingness to learn new software programs
- Ability to maintain composure and react professionally during periods of stress
- Must be self-motivated and able and willing to work independently while motivating team efforts
- Demonstrate diagnostic and troubleshooting competency relating to equipment repairs
- Possess basic tools to perform duties.
- Normal work schedule: after hours work and/or weekend work required, as necessary
- Ability to frequently lift, push and/or pull weights more than 50 pounds, occasionally lift, push and/or pull weights in excess of 100 pounds.
