Job Summary
Highway Specialties is an established and growing leader in the Pacific Northwest's specialty rental industry, focusing on work zone traffic control equipment and materials. As our Estimator, you will lead the charge in pre-bid project pursuit by developing comprehensive and competitive proposals for public and private sector opportunities throughout the region. Reporting directly to the Sales Director, you will work closely with our Sales and Operations teams to drive market share growth through superior service and solutions.
Core Responsibilities
- Proactively identify, research, and qualify project bid opportunities in the greater Pacific Northwest region
- Develop detailed cost estimates based on thorough analysis of project scope, contract drawings and specifications
- Manage the Company's internal bid calendar to maximize opportunity coverage and ensure high-value projects are prioritized
- Support pipeline development by maintaining accurate, organized CRM records
- Monitor evolving industry trends and agency specification changes to support precise and competitive bid development
- Support branch sales operations teams by preparing customer quotes and accurate product information
- Build and maintain a project file database, including material takeoffs, calculations, and supporting documents
- Cultivate and strengthen relationships with customers, public agencies, and vendors to drive business growth
- Collaborate with leadership and sales teams to identify target markets and inform pursuit strategy
- Occasional travel may be required, not expected to exceed 10%
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
- Working knowledge of WSDOT, ODOT, and MUTCD standards and specifications
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Proficient in interpreting construction plans and specifications
- Strong attention to detail and mathematical aptitude
- Highly organized and self-motivated with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced bid environment
- Goal-driven with a track record of meeting deadlines and delivering results
- Strong computer skills, experience with Bluebeam, MS Office, NetSuite preferred
- Prior experience in estimating is a plus; however, we are prepared to train a motivated candidate with the right background and aptitude
