Sr. EHS Specialist

The Senior EHS&S Specialist will lead all aspects of Environment, Health, Safety & Security for the Bennington Marine manufacturing facility located in Elkhart, Indiana. The Senior Specialist ensures compliance with internal and external EHS regulatory requirements including local, state and federal requirements. This individual helps lead site implementation of Polaris enterprise-wide Environmental, Health, Safety and Security policies, procedures, and initiatives, promotes cross-site standards and best practice sharing, and participates on enterprise-wide EHS project teams.

This position will be a member of the Corporate EHS team with reporting responsibilities to the Polaris Marine site Manager of Environment, Health, Safety and Security.

• Understands, implements, and ensures compliance with all applicable Environmental, Health, Safety and Security regulations, Polaris objectives, policies and procedures
• Implements requirements pertaining to environmental compliance, pollution prevention and resource efficiency
• Oversees and manages regulatory agency inspections
• Conducts routine safety and environmental inspections and audits; ensures compliance with internal and external regulatory standards, corrects on-the-spot violations; informs department of findings, recommends corrective or preventative measures, and performs follow-up inspections
• Provides technical assistance to plant personnel on safety and environmental issues.
• Works with site and corporate EHS&S staff to promote cross-site consistency regarding safety and environmental issues, goals, and management systems at all Polaris operating locations.
• Plans and coordinates safety and environmental training programs; prepares materials; coordinates, schedules and presents training classes; evaluates program effectiveness. (e.g. Hazard Communication, Lock Out Tag Out, Hazardous Waste Management, Storm Water Management, etc.)
• Assists with ergonomic assessments and provides support and advice for the continuous improvement of job processes
• Supports incident investigations to identify root cause of unplanned incidents and ensures corrective action measures are executed in a timely manner.
• Proactively investigates near misses and analyzes EHS reports and facility statistics for trends and patterns to identify potential improvement opportunities.
• Serves as a resource on facility wide issues related to personnel and asset safety, EHS compliance, emergency action planning and site security
• Acts as site Emergency Coordinator in the event of evacuation or shelter in place events
• Directs activities of hourly EHS&S technicians
• Works with site contract security team to address security issues in a timely manner
• Prepares and maintains required EHS documentation and reports to ensure local, state and federal compliance

· Works to continuously improve EHS and Security performance and operations; including safety improvement programs and corrective actions, and projects focused on improving facility efficiency and meeting readiness objectives such as a preventive maintenance program. Define and implement EHS and Security improvement initiatives across the site (ergonomics, industrial hygiene, engineering controls, PPE, etc.)

· Tracks progress on corrective actions related to EHS and security issues and ensure that actions are fully implemented, effective and sustainable

• Assists with Department of Transportation fleet oversight and compliance
• Supports activities at offsite warehouses as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned
