Job Description: RN-Psychiatric PRN
The RN-Psychiatric PRN is responsible for providing direct care to psychiatric patients in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing medication administration and patient monitoring
- Collaborating with the care team to ensure comprehensive patient support
- Patient advocacy, education, and coordination of care across multiple disciplines
This role emphasizes the importance of delivering high-quality patient care while working in a dynamic and stressful environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provides direct patient care using the nursing process
- Reports directly to the Director Nursing - Geri Psych
- Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments
- Documents patient care given
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate
- Assists patients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation
- Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs
- Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances
- Works as an advocate for patient physical and emotional well-being
Qualifications:
- Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree or RN Diploma required
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire or must be obtained within 90 days of employment, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within 12 months of employment
- Current TN or Multi-State RN licensure required
- Six months to one year experience with psychiatric/behavioral patients preferred
