General Statement of Duties: Responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals in and around the pool or aquatic area.
Supervision Received: Works under the direction and supervision of Aquatics Manager, Facility Manager, Assistant Facility Manager, Assistant Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Assistants.
Supervision Exercised: None.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Examples of Duties:

- Performs the functions of a professional lifeguard as defined by the current standards of care established by Jeff Ellis and Associates, Inc. International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP).
- Prevents accidents through the enforcement of organizational policies, rules and regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of people using swimming pools.
- Maintains discipline in and around the pool area, with assistance from supervisor as needed.
- Perform light maintenance and janitorial duties as required and directed to maintain swimming pool decks, bathrooms and surrounding areas to ensure a safe, clean and healthy aquatic environment.
- Assists with written documentation for chemical logs, incident reports, etc. during scheduled shift.
- Abides by all provisions as designated in the ILTP Lifeguard License Agreement.
- Performs host duties for special programming (birthday parties). Ensure participants have a safe and positive experience.
- Participates in the mission of the organization of Enhancing property values and creating quality of life through recreation, community events, and leadership.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical and Environmental Standards:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a busy aquatic environment where noise and interruptions prevail. Work will also be performed in different types of conditions including, but not limited to, heat, wind, cold, rain and snow. Must be able to frequently sit, walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull. Must be able to stand/ walk/ rove for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours per shift. Manual dexterity is needed to perform the functions of a lifeguard. The ability to talk and hear through face to face communication is needed. Vision requirements include near and far acuity. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/ remove a maximum of 25 pounds unassisted and 100 pounds with assistance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Thorough understanding of all pool rules and regulations governing the Aquatics Department. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist and lift. Ability to safely lift 25 pounds, unassisted, daily. With assistance, and on occasion, the ability to lift 100 pounds safely. Ability to communicate with members and staff of all ages in a polite and courteous manner. Must successfully complete and maintain the ILTP/CPR license with pre and post requisites for the duration of employment.
Must be a minimum of 15 years of age.
Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

Education:
Completion of one year of high school is desired.
Experience:
Previous Lifeguard experience desired.
