Highlands Oncology began in 1996 with three physicians and a desire to change the face of oncology care in our community. Dr. Malcolm Hayward, Dr. Dan Bradford, and Dr. Thad Beck knew that patients do better at home, in the community where they live and work, and where their support system is already in place. Job Summary: To provide top-quality care to oncology and hematology patients through nursing assessment, clinical judgment, and medication administration, while practicing within the professional boundaries established by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
Job Duties / Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care to hematology and oncology patients and become knowledgeable in these areas.
- Become proficient in medication administration, side effect management, and patient/family education.
- Administer non-oncology infusions. Only Infusion RNs will administer chemotherapy.
- Be knowledgeable about various venous and arterial access devices.
- Understand lab results and diagnostic findings and educate patients accordingly.
- Be competent in the use of the EMR and patient documentation.
- Coordinate patient care activities with Social Workers and other departments.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and confidentiality regarding clinic matters.
- Keep all licenses, certifications, and BLS current (ACLS optional).
- Maintain continuing education hours as needed to maintain licensure.
- Demonstrate ongoing professional growth through relevant education and participation in associations such as the Oncology Nursing Society.
- Adhere to clinic standards, policies, and procedures while being cost-effective.
- Maintain a high standard of professional performance, behavior, and appearance.
- Attend bi-monthly nursing meetings or review the minutes if unable to attend.
