Reports To: Assistant Superintendent Position Summary: The Building Principal serves as the building leader, ensuring the effective operation of the school and the success of its students. The Principal provides instructional leadership, fosters a positive and inclusive school culture, and collaborates with staff, students, families, and the community to achieve the school’s goals. This role requires a commitment to high standards of educational excellence and adherence to Rhode Island’s educational leadership standards. Key Responsibilities: Instructional Leadership: Develop and implement a shared vision for high-quality, equitable instruction aligned with district goals, RI leadership standards, and evidence-based pedagogy. Support and guide teachers in the development and/or implementation of curriculum and instructional practices that meet the diverse needs of all students. Analyze student performance data to identify strengths, gaps, and areas for improvement; use this data to drive instructional decisions and interventions. Cultivate and lead a culture of continuous adult learning where teachers, staff, and administrators work, plan, and learn together to support student learning and growth. Conduct regular classroom observations and evaluations to provide feedback and elevate instructional quality. School Culture and Climate: Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment where all students and staff feel valued. Lead a school culture rooted in belonging, student agency, and restorative practices. Promote high standards for behavior and address challenges promptly and constructively. Build strong partnerships with families and the community to involve them in school decision-making. Support the successful onboarding of new staff to ensure alignment with school culture and expectations. Prioritize staff retention by cultivating a positive work environment, recognizing contributions, and promoting ongoing professional growth. School Improvement Planning and Management: Develop and implement school improvement plans that align with the district strategic plans and address the needs of the school community. Lead school improvement initiatives by setting clear goals, measuring progress, and adjusting strategies as needed. Oversee the effective management of school resources, including budget, facilities, and personnel, ensuring that they are utilized efficiently to support student achievement. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and policies. School Test Coordination: Coordinate standardized testing to ensure compliance and use results to inform instruction, address learning gaps, and communicate progress clearly to families and staff. Leadership and Collaboration: Model and promote effective leadership practices that inspire and motivate staff, students, and the community. Foster a collaborative environment by working with teachers, staff, and stakeholders to address school challenges and implement innovative solutions. Support talent development by identifying leadership potential, facilitating professional learning, and fostering career pathways for educators. Communication and Relationship Building: Maintain open, transparent, and regular communication with staff, students, families, and the community. Address and resolve conflicts and concerns in a timely and professional manner. Represent the school positively in the community and advocate for the needs and interests of the school.
