What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lower School Teacher position at Highland School?
Founded in 1928, Highland School is an independent, co-educational, college preparatory day school serving approximately 500 students in grades PK-12. The school consists of three divisions, each of which is housed in a separate building that is connected to the others by breezeways. The Lower School houses grades PK 2 through 4th Grade and includes separate music, art, science, sports, and project/innovation spaces.
Lower School homeroom teachers of grades K - 4 report to the Lower School Director and work in collaboration with their other grade level teachers. S/he assesses their students' educational, social, and emotional needs and creates lessons that are responsive to those needs. S/he should be comfortable with both direct instruction and inquiry based learning. S/he is responsible for teaching math, language arts, social studies, and project approach work, as well as organizing student assemblies, field trips, project culminations, and an annual class play.
