What are the responsibilities and job description for the Remodeling Superintendent / Lead Carpenter position at Highland Ridge Remodeling?
$3,000 Signing Bonus OR 10 Extra Paid Days Off...Your Choice!
Please Read Before Applying: We're looking for a highly skilled, well-rounded carpenter with 5 years of professional residential remodeling experience who can independently take ownership of a jobsite from demolition through final completion. You should have strong hands-on skills in framing, finish carpentry, cabinetry, bathrooms, tile, flooring, and general remodeling, along with the ability to read plans, coordinate subcontractors, manage schedules, solve problems, and communicate confidently with homeowners. This isn't an entry-level or single-trade position. We're looking for someone who knows what needs to happen next and takes responsibility for getting the job done right.
A Note from Chris, Our Owner
Hey there,
I've been building and remodeling homes most of my life. My dad handed me a hammer when I was seven years old, and I've loved the trade ever since.
We started Highland Ridge in 1992, and one thing I've learned over the years is that a really good carpenter is worth their weight in gold.
You know the type. Someone who can walk onto a jobsite, figure out what needs to happen, pick up just about any tool, and get things done right. Someone who can frame an addition, install cabinets, finish out a bathroom, and figure things out when a project doesn't go quite as planned.
That's the kind of person we're looking for.
We need someone who knows residential remodeling inside and out. Someone who can take ownership of a jobsite, keep things moving, and take pride in the finished product.
Just as important, you've got to be good with people. We're working in our clients homes, often while they're living there, and how we treat people matters just as much as the work itself.
We've got a good team here. Some of our people have been with us for more than 10 years, which means a lot to me. I want Highland Ridge to be a place where people feel appreciated, enjoy their work, and have a good life outside of it, too.
And because finding the right person means a lot to us, we're offering something a little different. You can choose between a $3,000 signing bonus or 10 extra paid days off during your first year. Maybe a little extra money sounds good, or maybe you'd rather have a couple more weeks to spend doing what you love outside of work. Either way, the choice is yours.
If you're good at what you do and looking for a place where you can settle in, be appreciated, and work with a great group of people, I'd really like to meet you.

What We're Looking For
We're looking for a highly skilled, well-rounded residential remodeler who can take a project from demolition through the finishing touches and knows how to keep everything moving along the way.
This is a hands-on position. We need someone who's comfortable picking up their tools, solving problems, and taking responsibility for the work being done.
You should have strong hands-on experience in:
- Framing and Structural Work: Wall, floor, and roof framing, stairs, beams, headers, additions, and structural modifications.
- Finish Carpentry: Doors, windows, trim, crown molding, baseboards, and custom built-ins.
- Cabinet Installation: Custom and semi-custom cabinetry, vanities, panels, fillers, and hardware.
- Bathrooms and Tile: Shower waterproofing systems, shower pans, niches, tile installation, and complete bathroom remodels.
- Flooring: LVP, tile, and subfloor preparation.
- Exterior Carpentry: Siding, windows, exterior doors, decks, flashing, and weatherproofing.
- General Remodeling: Demolition, drywall, repairs, troubleshooting, and an understanding of how plumbing, electrical, and HVAC fit into a project.
- Plan Reading: Reading construction drawings, understanding specifications, and planning the work from start to finish.
We're not looking for someone who's only worked in one specialty. We want someone who has done the work, knows what good craftsmanship looks like, and can figure things out when an old house throws a surprise at them. If you're the carpenter everyone turns to when something needs to be figured out, we'd love to talk.
Taking Ownership of the Jobsite
As our Remodeling Superintendent, you'll be responsible for keeping multiple residential remodeling projects on track throughout the Portland metro area.
That means:
- Taking ownership of jobsites from demolition through final completion.
- Working hands-on when needed and making sure the work meets our standards.
- Coordinating subcontractors, materials, inspections, and schedules.
- Planning ahead so the right people and materials are ready when needed.
- Keeping an eye on productivity, quality, safety, and jobsite cleanliness.
- Communicating with homeowners and keeping them informed.
- Solving problems as they come up instead of waiting for someone else to handle them.
- Helping other carpenters improve their skills along the way.
You'll have a Project Manager and support team behind you. Our Project Managers help with scheduling, permitting, and procurement, while our designers, sales team, and office staff work together to keep projects running smoothly.
We want someone who can run their jobsites with confidence, but we're not expecting them to do everything alone.
A Few Things You Should Know
This isn't an entry-level position. We're looking for someone with real residential remodeling experience who can independently take ownership of a jobsite.
You'll need to be organized, dependable, comfortable working directly with homeowners, and able to read plans and coordinate different trades.
A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required.
We typically work Monday through Friday throughout the Portland metro area. Some days you'll be working hands-on, while others you'll be coordinating trades, visiting jobsites, and planning upcoming work.
We believe in working hard, communicating well, and having a healthy balance between work and life outside the jobsite.
A Little About Highland Ridge
We're a family-owned remodeling company based in Oregon City. We've been serving homeowners throughout the Portland metro area since 1992, specializing in kitchens, bathrooms, additions, ADUs, and whole-home remodels.
Our story goes back to 1972, when Chris's father, Don, taught him to drive nails while building an addition onto their family home. That love of building things is still a big part of who we are today.
We take pride in the quality of our work, the relationships we've built with homeowners, and standing behind our craftsmanship with a long-term workmanship warranty.
We're growing, and there are opportunities for the right people to take on more responsibility as the company grows.
Here's How Our Interview Process Works
We like to keep things straightforward. We want to get to know you, and we want you to have a chance to get to know us.
1. 30-Minute Phone/Zoom Screening
We'll have a conversation about your experience, the kind of work you've done, and what you're looking for.
2. One-Hour In-Person Interview
Come meet the team, talk about some of the projects you've worked on, and get a better feel for Highland Ridge.
3. One-Day Paid Working Interview
Spend a paid day working alongside our crew on an actual remodeling project. It's a chance for us to see your skills firsthand and for you to see what working here is really like.
Let's sit down, talk shop, and see if we'd be a good fit for each other.
