Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Machinist Grade 1 to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining various machining equipment, including Manual & CNC lathes and milling machines. This role requires a solid understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision measurement to produce high-quality components. The Machinist Grade 1 will work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure manufacturing processes meet specifications and safety standards. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with mechanical aptitude and a passion for manufacturing excellence to develop their skills in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools, such as lathes, milling machine, and grinder, to machine parts, and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications. Proven capability and comprehension of conventional CNC programming(G-Code), 2D, and 3D modeling techniques and their application to the practice of machining. CNC programming capabilities should include being able to manually program all capabilities of 3 and 4 axis machining based on HAAS programming (Similar to FANUC) or OKUMA (Parametric Programming).
  • Capable of properly using indexing heads, 4th axis equipment, sine plates, or other complex machining aides that may be necessary to produce complicated machined parts.
  • Compute basic dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly method and sequence of operations. Measure, mark, scribe, and prepare material for machining.At a minimum the employee would be expected to analyze specifications, lay out parts, set up and operate machine tools, fit and assemble parts to fabricate and repair assemblies or components being produced.
  • Candidate must be capable of performing required mathematics to locate machining points, areas, or other critical features not explicitly stated on provided product requirements.
  • The ideal candidate will have a proven capability for tight tolerance work ( /- 0.001") in conventional machining methods (manual lathes and mills).
  • Must be versatile in the use of precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines to ensure dimensional accuracy
  • Be able to work with metal, composites, plastics, wood, or other misc. materials.
  • Program CNC machines using CAM software and perform basic CNC programming adjustments as needed
  • Perform work applying knowledge of general shop practices, machining, basic shop mathematics, awareness of metal properties, and layout, and assembly procedures.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on machinery and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime
  • Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and tooling to assist in assembly or fabrication tasks
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area adhering to safety protocols
  • Assist in quality control processes by inspecting parts with precision measuring instruments Must be capable of verifying dimensions using a full spectrum of measuring equipment to include but not limited to vernier, dial, and digital calipers, micrometers, & height gages.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in manufacturing or machining environments; prior CNC programming experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, GD&T, and mechanical principles
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks or similar programs is advantageous
  • Applicant must work well with others, be available to support a 48 hour a week regular scheduled shift, (7-5:30 M-Th, 7-3:30 F) and additional OT on an as needed basis.
  • Ability to operate CNC machines including CNC lathe and CNC milling machine (Fanuc controls preferred)
  • Skilled in the use of precision measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines
  • Required math skills necessary for precise measurements and calculations in machining processes
  • Knowledge of tooling setup, fixture design, welding, power tools, forklift operation, and lean manufacturing principles is desirable
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and safety standards
