JOB SUMMARY

The Student Daycare Assistant supports the educational mission of the school and department administrators in a safe and efficient manner. This position requires professional judgment. This position will assist the day care coordinator in supervising children in a safe and positive learning environment.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

1. Ability to follow safety practice
2. Ability to work with limited supervision and changing work priorities
3. Must be a current district high school student that attends the school at which they will be employed
4. Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These are examples of skills and experience that the best-qualified candidates may have. Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.

1. Job-related experience
2. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience using data-based software
3. Knowledge of child development and ability to identify and adapt directives to students of all ages
4. Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Supervise children to ensure they are behaving appropriately and are safe and engaged in appropriate and engaging activities
2. Assist in providing basic care needs (e.g., toileting, diapering, etc.) to provide basic needs for daily living
3. Assist daycare staff in maintaining a well-managed and safe classroom environment
4. Promote a positive environment to prepare students for learning
5. Be proactive in identifying, addressing, and bringing to the attention of the administrator any potential safety concerns
6. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders
7. Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information, and meeting deadlines
8. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position
9. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required
10. As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 25 pounds
11. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
12. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
