PRESCHOOL PARAPROFESSIONAL

Westfield Public Schools seeks qualified applicants for the following vacancy at Highland Elementary school: Preschool paraprofessional JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of authorized administrators shall:

1. Assist the student(s) to whom assigned in such physical tasks as putting on and taking off of clothing, moving from room to room, using the lavatory, feeding and so on.
2. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
3. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
4. Establishes as fully as possible a supportive and sympathetic relationship with the student(s) without fostering or encouraging intense emotional involvement.
5. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
6. Assists teacher in duties relating to the supervision of playground, lavatories, cafeteria, and bus loading activities.
7. Assists with lunch, snack and clean-up routines.
8. Participates in in-service training programs.
9. Any other duties as assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal Terms of employment will be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit D contract. Performance on this job will be in accordance with the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation. This position subject to funding.

Salary : $18 - $28
