What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at HIGHLAND DISTRICT HOSPITAL?
This is a hybrid position with approximately 50% of time in office and 50% of time worked from home.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepares monthly financial statements including related statistics and analytical schedules in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Prepares general ledger, bank, and cash account reconciliations
- Monitors systems of internal control.
- Prepares monthly journal entries.
- Prepares monthly schedules for bad debt reserves and third party contractual allowances, and subsequent journal entries.
- Assists in the preparation of annual budgets and provides support to office leads.
- Develops supporting information for the annual Medicare and Medicaid cost reports.
- Supports the annual independent audit.
- Protects confidentiality and privacy, including but not limited to, HIPAA policies, proprietary and financial information.
- Provides back up for processing HHP accounts payable.
- Review of invoices or estimated expenses for inclusion as accruals into the monthly financial statements.
- Maintenance of data necessary to prepare Benchmarking reports.
- Maintain 1099 information on new vendors.
- Provides back up for processing of HHP payroll.
- Performs other projects and analysis as assigned.
Education – Required: Associates Degree in Accounting
Education – Preferred: Bachelors Degree.
Minimum Experience: None Required
Preferred Experience: 1-2 years relevant experience as accountant or bookkeeper.
Competencies Required: General accounting skills, written and oral communication skills, supervisory skills. Knowledge of automated accounting systems and proficiency with Excel and Word.
Physical Demands: Might be subject to irregular hours and frequent interruptions. Work tends to be sedentary.
The position requires the successful completion of a medical examination after offer of hire has been made. The position requires the employee to be free of all unlawful substances and alcohol.
Work Environment: Administrative, office environment. Eligible for hybrid work schedule.
Work Schedule: Business hours. Additional hours as needed to meet department responsibilities. May be asked to attend meetings at various times of the day and evening.
Must be willing to work according to organizational needs.
