Student Success Coach (Grant Funded)
Highland Community College is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Student Success Coach to support student achievement and retention through targeted coaching, intervention strategies, and holistic support services. This grant-funded position focuses on helping studentsespecially those identified as high-riskovercome barriers and persist toward their academic and personal goals. This role also includes responsibilities as an athletic coach.
Note: This position is contingent upon the availability of grant funding.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of students, including grant program participants and other identified high-risk populations
- Provide individualized coaching to help students develop self-efficacy, overcome barriers, and achieve academic success
- Teach time management, study skills, organization, and self-regulation strategies
- Develop and implement individualized student success plans
- Connect students with wraparound support services, including mentoring, counseling, tutoring, and other campus resources
- Serve as a liaison to assist students in navigating college systems and services
- Support retention initiatives by actively engaging students in goal setting and success planning
- Utilize predictive analytics and assessment tools to identify student needs and coordinate support services
- Participate in the retention referral program, including case management and student follow-up
- Assist in coordinating and implementing high-engagement student success strategies and technologies
- Support Testing Center operations as needed
- Maintain accurate records and utilize systems for program tracking and communication
- Serve as an athletic head or assistant coach (sport to be determined)
- Assist in recruiting, organizing, and leading a competitive intercollegiate athletic program
- Collaborate with the Director of Athletics on program operations, including scheduling, eligibility, fundraising, and event management
- Perform other duties as assigned
What Were Looking For
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred in counseling, education, student development, or a related field
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience assessing student learning needs or in a related role
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of learning theory, instructional strategies, and student development practices
- Understanding of academic advising, student support services, and retention strategies
- Familiarity with intercollegiate athletics, coaching principles, and regulations
- Experience working with diverse student populations
- Ability to use data and analytics to inform decision-making
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Effective organizational and record-keeping abilities
- Proficiency in computer systems and software applications
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to present information effectively in individual and group settings
- Skill in coaching individuals and teams and coordinating programs or events
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, and staff
- Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, and commitment to student success
Licenses & Certifications
- Ability to obtain certification to administer Pearson VUE, CLEP, and DSST exams within 36 months of hire (preferred)
Work Environment & Requirements
- Medium work level: ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally, 20 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. continuously
- Potential exposure to hazardous materials (e.g., bloodborne pathogens)
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
- Ability to travel to off-campus locations as needed

Salary & Benefits
- Salary Range: $42,224 - $63,357 annually
