Bookstore Manager
Highland Community College is seeking an experienced and customer-focused Bookstore Manager to lead the operations of our campus bookstore. This full-time position plays a vital role in supporting students, faculty, and staff by ensuring efficient textbook services, retail operations, and exceptional customer experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily bookstore operations, including textbook management and retail sales.
- Collaborate with faculty to ensure accurate textbook adoption each semester in compliance with the Higher Education Opportunity Act.
- Prepare purchase orders, process invoices, and manage inventory through the POS system.
- Make decisions on retail and wholesale book buybacks.
- Perform daily reconciliation of cash drawers, credit card transactions, and prepare bank deposits.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate bookstore staff.
- Assist in budget development and recommend purchases for supplies and equipment.
- Research vendors for best pricing and quality of merchandise.
- Maintain and update the bookstores online presence, process online sales, and reconcile balances.
- Participate in customer service activities, including assisting customers, stocking shelves, and conducting inventory.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies and maintain accurate financial records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What Were Looking For
Education & Experience
- Associates degree in retail, business, management, or related field required.
- Bachelors degree preferred.
- Two (2) years of retail sales and buying experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of retail operations, inventory control, and purchasing practices.
- Knowledge of wholesale textbook buying and returns.
- Proficiency in POS systems and computer applications.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to train and supervise staff effectively.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements
- Light work: ability to exert up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 10 lbs. frequently.
