The academic advisors serves as a primary resource for students in academic advising and academic support. The advisor holistically guides students to plan, learn, reflect, and engage in the world in ways appropriate for their educational path, career, and personal development and serves as key member of the academic support team providing targeted assistance with academic success coaching and support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Deliver interactional Academic Advising experiences for assigned students.
- Provide supplemental advising and registration assistance to all current undergraduate students.
- Ensure students understand and navigate the class registration process, understanding degree and general education requirements.
- Teach courses, as needed, that support academic success initiatives.
- Address all areas of academic concerns with students, including tutoring, study skills and time management.
- Make referrals to other points of service such as counseling, financial aid, career services, student life, and disability services.
- Participate in professional development opportunities.
- Remain current in high impact practices as related to academic advising, student success, and higher education;
9. Contribute to the success of the department by completing all other duties as needed to promote the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
1.Master’s degree preferred; bachelor’s degree required.
2.2 years academic advising or closely related experience.
3.Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills (particularly in working with a diverse student population), and organizational skills are required.
4.Computer literacy, including Word processing, Excel spreadsheets and database management are required.
