Job Summary – Nursing Supervisor 

In addition to performing the duties of a staff nurse, the Nursing Supervisor supports the Director of Nursing (DON) in overseeing the Nursing department. This role includes assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, procedures, and documentation that support the highest standards of care.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide oversight and leadership for the Nursing and Medical Records departments as needed.

• Collaborate with the DON to develop and update policies, procedures, and forms to improve efficiency and quality of care.

• Ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of residents through high standards of nursing practice.

• Foster a positive, team-oriented environment and act as a role model and leader within the department and organization.

• Deliver corrective counseling and performance feedback to nursing staff when appropriate.

• Assist the DON with staffing, scheduling, and shift coverage as needed.

• Take on-call responsibilities when scheduled.

• Oversee and ensure the accuracy of change-of-shift reports.

• Serve as the senior staff member during scheduled shifts when administrative leadership is not present.

• Respond to resident health concerns, conduct assessments, and initiate appropriate referrals.

• Monitor and ensure compliance with medication administration policies and procedures.

• Maintain accurate medication administration records (MARs).

• Transcribe physician orders as needed.

• Review incoming medical records and history & physicals for new admissions; collaborate with clinical and admissions staff on any concerns.

• Manage and coordinate scheduling of resident appointments with internal providers (PAs/Physicians).

• Assist residents in coordinating off-site medical appointments when necessary.

• Accurately document nursing notes and maintain detailed records.

• Monitor and replenish nursing forms and supplies as needed.

• Support a clean, organized, and efficient nursing workspace.

• Complete incident reports when applicable.

• Support assessments and care for residents requiring emergency services or requesting to be excused from scheduled programming (e.g., groups, meals).

• Ensure adherence to policies and procedures by all nursing staff.

• Must be able to work weekends

Program Participation

• Participate in the admissions process and assist in welcoming new residents.

• Support the enforcement of resident expectations and community standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Jersey.

• BSN preferred, or actively pursuing a BSN degree.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to walk, stand, bend, climb stairs, and lift to 25 pounds.

• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, operate a telephone, and use standard office and medical equipment (e.g., computer, copier, fax).
