Position Overview

Position Overview. Join a team where community comes first. Swampscott High School is looking for a dedicated Physics(e.g.) Teacher to help us uphold our commitment to academic excellence, create meaningful opportunities for students, and strengthen our collaborative school community. In this role, you will be responsible for providing intensive, specialized instruction to students with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities in a substantially separate setting.

Guided by the district’s C.O.R.E. values—Community, Opportunity, Respect, and Equity—you will foster a safe, respectful classroom culture and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure every student develops the literacy and self-advocacy skills necessary for success in college, career, and citizenship.

Essential Functions

Specialized Literacy & Content Instruction

  • Evidence-Based Pedagogy: Deliver structured, direct, sequential, systematic, and multi-sensory instruction to teach decoding, encoding, phonemic awareness, and reading comprehension.
  • Core Subject Delivery: Responsible for teaching specialized ELA and Reading to students with dyslexia, incorporating explicit instruction in content-relevant vocabulary and academic language.
  • Math & Writing Support: Provide targeted, specialized instruction and accommodations for students with learning disabilities in written expression and mathematics.
  • Executive Functioning: Provide explicit instruction in executive functioning skills, including organization, task initiation, and time management.

Case Management & Compliance

  • Documentation: Conduct comprehensive evaluations, draft Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and produce detailed progress reports within state and district timelines.
  • Assistive Technology: Integrate and manage Assistive Technology tools to facilitate student access to high-school-level curriculum.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Operate within a team-based model, working closely with the Speech and Language Therapist and other related service providers.

Professional Reliability & Outreach

  • Consistent Attendance: Maintain punctuality and consistent attendance to ensure instructional continuity and the safety of students within a specialized setting.
  • Family Partnership: Maintain proactive, transparent, and frequent communication with families regarding student progress and programmatic goals.

Qualifications

  • Licensure: Valid Massachusetts Educator License in Severe Disabilities (All Levels) preferred.
  • Certifications: Orton-Gillingham or Wilson Reading Program certification is required.
  • Education: Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field required.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience specifically with students with language-based disabilities.
  • Compliance: Successful completion of a Massachusetts CORI and fingerprint-based national criminal background check.
